Struggle team all convened in San Diego on July 16th. Our schedule of events was as follows:
July 17th-Autograph signing at Elyzium in San Diego
July 18th-Demo and Signing at Driscolls in El Centro
July 19th-Demo and Signing at Shelter in Fullerton
(Our last event on July 20th was canceled)
Instead of giving a detailed play by play of the 5 days of our tour, I am going to give some of the highlights and memorable moments. So, either by car, train or plane we all met up in San Diego. Ruben Najera is the Struggle team manager and he is also pro for them. Luckily for us all, he is a very organized and on the ball type of guy. We got straight to business. Right from the airport we went to skate spot after skate spot…documenting every trick through filming and photos. We were all so hyped up to skate together that everyone was having a blast, skating well, and we were all motivating each other. That was the vibe of every skate session we had on the trip…Super positive and motivating.
When we were not skating street or doing demos, we were either in the van traveling to skate somewhere else, or in the hotel sleeping for a few hours. We were down to business, and it will show in our up coming Struggle Skateboards Promo Video (coming very soon!). Imagine 7 dudes in one van for hours at a time. As soon as we stepped out of the van, we were on our boards. (Thank you to Ollie Pop for hooking us up with the tour van!!!! You saved my legs!!!)
Tricks that stick out in my head that went down are, Ruben’s nose manual 360 nollie shuvit out, Nick’s backside tailslide up a bank/ledge, Diego’s frontside flip down a huge five stair/ledge gap, Tyrone’s switch frontside flip down the Ollie Pop gap. Again, check out all the footage in the promo vid!
Thank you to all of the shops for inviting us out and being such gracious hosts!!!!!
See you on our next tour! Peace.

Hello all! I hope everyone’s summer is off to an awesome start full of lots and lots of skateboarding. I know mine is. We are all finished filming for the Struggle Skateboards promo video. It is just a small taste of what the full-length video will be when it comes out in 2010. The promo video will be out sometime next month. It has some sick skating in it so be sure to check it out!
In other Struggle news, the whole team is gearing up for a demo/filming tour in around Southern California from July 16th-20th. If you are in the area, come check us out and meet the team. Dates will be posted at www.struggleskateboards.com

On the home front, I have a new addition to my backyard training facility. I 4.5 foot mini ramp. It is the perfect way to start and end each day! There has already been some insane skate sessions that would blow anyone watching away. Hartman Macey has been destroying it! I am going to be filming all the madness that takes place and putting together a short vid just from my ramp. Keep in tune for when and where to see the skateboarding mini ramp trickery.
If anyone ever has any specific questions or issues that they want me to write about, feel free to ask. Now get outside and have fun on your skateboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the snow is melted and spring has sprung out here in Salt Lake City. This is the perfect time of year for skating out here. The temperature is not too hot, not too cold. The skateparks are not crowded. And spring time always gives me a refresher boost of stokedness.
It has been a busy last few months. We are all finished filming for the Struggle Skateboards promo video and it is being edited as we speak. It will be available in shops and also I will come with each Struggle deck purchased, so be on the look out! The team is now filming for the full length video coming out this fall.
Another exciting project I have been working on is an interview for Heavy Water Magazine. I am really stoked on how it turned out. And it was a blast shooting the photos for it. They are some of my favorite photos ever taken of me skating. They asked me some really interesting questions about my fellow teammates that you won’t want to miss. The interview will be out in the next issue, so check it out!
If anyone is interested in showing off their skateboarding skills, Struggle has a fun Challenge Contest they are putting on. It is all through video, so you can participate no matter where you live. All four of the pros on the team have a signature challenge, so get on and check out the Anthony Johnson Challenge!!! If you can do the challenge you can win some free products. I will give you a hint…How good are you at skating while holding a cup of water?
Check out my Herron Trucks ad in the next issue of Concrete Wave Magazine!
I’m going skating right now, and you should all go do the same! Have an awesome spring! Thanks for reading!
Much Love and Peace

For those of you have ever been to an ASR trade show you know what a mad house it can be. For those of you who have not, let me do my best to explain. Imagine almost every company that has anything to do with surfing and skateboarding displaying their products at the San Diego Convention Center. Then add in all of the employees of those companies. Then add in all of the team riders for all of those companies. Then to top it off in a quirky way, add in all of the models that companies hire to dress ridiculously scandalous while somehow promoting their products. So imagine that crew of people, many of whom are intoxicated, and you can see how it may be a mad house.
Now that you have a bit of a visual, let me tell you about a fun experience I had at the last ASR in January. There are normally a variety of skate contest throughout the trade show that are sponsored by a variety of companies. As a pro I like to enter at least one per show to represent my sponsors properly. This January I chose to enter the high ollie contest.
Growing up skating, we were always stacking decks up to see how many we could ollie. As we progressed and the years went by we were ollieing higher and higher. In the last ten years I have not practiced how high I can ollie. I have regularly ollie up and over things that I view as high, but not officially practiced for an event like this. I was realistic going into it. I knew that there were people that do train for the high ollie contest. I knew I could hold my own, but probably would not take first.
As I walked into the room of the convention center that the contest was being held, I saw somebody that almost made me walk away from the contest…DONGER!!!!!!!! Anyone who has skated in the last 20 plus years knows of Donger as an amazing pro. And on top of that he is most well known for his insane ability to ollie high!
I pulled myself together, entered the contest and gave it my best shot. I did not take first, and I did not take last. (See footage of my highest ollie along side this log entry).
It turns out that Donger was an extremely gracious human, along with every other pro out there. It was awesome to see how supportive of each other we all were. I look forward to more and more contests with such positive, gracious and professional pros!
Thank you for reading.
Have a pleasant day!
